Training a dog is an endeavor which requires a plethora of patience, but if done correctly is also immensely rewarding. Consider using a crate when house training your dog. Because dogs do not like to eliminate where they eat or sleep, keeping your dog in a crate at night or when you are away works with a dog’s natural instincts.
Swatting or hitting your dog is not a good training tool. If you attempt to train your dog in this manner, all you are teaching them is to be scared of you. Eventually, the dog will stop listening to voice commands, and will only respond to you raising your hand. Getting a dog’s loyalty through fear is a mistake on the owner’s part.
If you want to raise a well-behaved dog, you should always make sure that your dog has these three vital needs met: food, water, and shelter. All animals need to have these needs. If your dog does not have a proper amount of any of these three needs, then your training methods will be ineffective (and you shouldn’t have a pet).
Be consistent. It is going to take a lot of work to train your dog. And if you aren’t consistent, you can undo all the work that you did in the first place. You have to teach your dog the way to behave, and that is true whether you feel great or whether you’re busy, stressed or sick. Consistent behavior from you leads to consistent behavior from your dog.
A good dog training tip is to be aware of the body language you use. Dogs pay close attention to our body language and it’s important that you are sending the right message. Talking too much can also confuse dogs, so it’s best to be succinct with what you’re trying to say.
If you are not serious about making your dog perform when commanded, do not give the command to begin with. You must follow through with the command that you have given to him. Do not let your dog ignore the command when given. Make sure that you continue until he succeeds.
